Our vehicle arrives punctually at your hotel and at every stop you get to meet your companions on this adventure.
Once at the meeting point, Sergio will wish you “good morning” and will introduce Isa. She will lead you in the yoga session which precedes your other activities.
After the energy boost, we head to Faraján in our private vehicle (BMW x3 or van). During the journey you can feel the embrace of the sea of chestnut trees, holm oaks and cork oaks that make up this valley.
First we visit the waterfall of Las Chorreras de Balastar. We’ll just tell you that Hemingway described it as “a white swan on a pool of hope.” And in its surroundings you will discover the well-cared-for orchards from the Arab period that the residents of Faraján tend with affection. The fruit trees, the arabic waterways and the leafy vegetation will leave you in no doubt that this landscape a real orchard.
The next stop is at the small Iberian pig farm of Jamones de Alto Genal. This visit gives you a clear vision of what life is like in the countryside and the love that these small entrepreneurs feel for their environment – a careful protection of their animals, concern for their well-being and their diet, which results in a delicious and surprising ham. You savour it calmly along with the rest of local products, among which the derivatives of the chestnut predominate, a crop ever-present in the area.
We eat at the Royal Tin Factory, in Júzcar. This old 17th century factory has been converted into an ecological winery. The wines and dishes are excellent, and the place… remote and magical. And since today is your lucky day, you have even seen the rare Iberian lynx.
After this short break, it’s time for some action. It is time to do the Ruta de los Riscos, also known as the Ruta de las Eras (“The Cliff Route”). It is a simple route between limestone rocks to which the action of the water and the wind has given the most curious shapes. You feel like you are in an open-air museum.
Back in the van once more, you take the opportunity to rest a bit while you think about what is left to enjoy.
